It makes all the different which lenses you chose to look thorough when looking at something. I had this epiphany today when I was out getting groceries. One of my clients manufactures a product which I consume because I think it’s the BEST on the market, it is also cost effective which helps the budget. I placed an executive in this business a few years ago and he got to see the raw behind the scenes goings-on. He also complained that the management of the business was poor and advised me never to place anyone there again because I would be ruining my reputation. This business is current exploding in the market and its competitor is in huge trouble because the product is nicer, cheaper and available in most grocery stores now. Back to my encounter. It’s Saturday afternoon and raining outside. I had every intention to get up this morning and going for a 5km 'wog' (walk/jog, as I like to call it). But when I woke up, late, and saw that it was windy and raining, there were 100 million other things I would rather have done other than going outdoors. I had promised my 7-year-old that we were going to make a concerted effort to get healthier, so I couldn’t very well let the weather dictate my commitment to getting myself moving. We went to the beach promenade and we were the only crazy humans outdoors the whole way. But it was the most beautiful experience I’ve had down there. The was a spring low tide and the water was about 50m – 70m out and we saw the Durban beach in a way we’ll probably never see it like that again. We only managed 2kms because of the howling wind and rain, but I’m glad we did go, and it set me up right for the rest of the day. I sit with successful Managing Directors and I hear the words over and over, “I want out!” Heck, don’t we all want out from something in our lives? I want out of the level of noise which my home creates. As an only child the only noise I was ever use too was the noise I created. As an adult our first house purchase took my breath away. The home was old (dated, some like to call it), stunning views and original oregon pine floors. Little did we know with 3 young kids that the level of noise with those floors would drive us I-N-S-A-N-E. I want out!!! My dream home became my worst nightmare. Apparently if we use this analogy it is a positive sign that we are still moving forward. I meet the most amazing people in my profession (very few aren’t amazing), and they all have a different story to tell which I love hearing. I chose going into recruitment because I didn’t get a job at Flight Centre when I applied. I wanted to work with people and I felt the Travel or Recruitment Industry would give me a platform to meet new people daily and give me a variety in the work I’d be doing. I was very upset when I didn’t get the Flight Centre job but that lead me onto getting employed at the 2 nd largest Financial Recruitment Company in the UK. Why am I telling you this? I had many different ideas growing up about what I wanted to become, a wildlife photographer, a graphic designer, a hair dresser, a housewife and a social worker. Are you like me going through your 30's or 40's (we won't get specific here) trying to figure out this life/career thing?  In my profession I get calls daily from individuals who are stuck between a rock and a hard place in their careers. They call me for advice and ask me to find them their 'dream job'. When I ask them what that 'dream job' is they all sound the same. They want a 'voice' in their new role, they want to be able to make decisions and have room to grow, perhaps even manage a team, travel the world... and more importantly to have 'peace' in what they do day in and day out which takes them away from their families.  Maybe it is the executive talent I work with, but these individuals are all highly educated, mostly married and seeking fulfilment.
